Ahead of taking part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon, the For Baby’s Sake Trust team met with Stevenage Football Club Foundation and Annie Brewster JP, High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, to discuss vital domestic abuse initiatives and explore the transformative power of sport in fostering safer communities.
The meeting focused on how these organisations can work collaboratively tackle domestic abuse in Hertfordshire, with a particular emphasis on early intervention and trauma-informed approaches.
Central to the discussion was the High Sheriff’s ‘Sport for Good’ initiative — a key theme for her shrieval year — which harnesses the positive influence of sport to inspire change, build resilience, and create inclusive, supportive environments.
“One of the greatest lessons of my High Sheriff year is to understand how unaddressed traumatic experiences in our childhood shape our entire lives, and of those around us, in negative and harmful ways. To see the innovative and inspiring initiatives the dedicated teams at the For Baby’s Sake Trust and Stevenage Football Club Foundation are delivering in our community is incredible and makes me very proud indeed. My thanks to you all and very best of luck to Jon and Matt in the London Landmarks Half Marathon.”

The For Baby’s Sake Trust works across Hertfordshire and beyond, empowering both parents to address the impact of domestic abuse and create nurturing environments for their babies. The charity delivers its innovative programme in Stevenage and other local areas, focusing on breaking intergenerational cycles of abuse and trauma.
“We were delighted to welcome the Hertfordshire High Sheriff and the For Baby’s Sake team to the Lamex Stadium to celebrate 10 years of their vital work. At Stevenage FC Foundation, we are committed to supporting initiatives that make a real difference in our community, and For Baby’s Sake plays a crucial role in breaking cycles of domestic abuse and giving families the best possible start. It was an important opportunity to discuss the ongoing efforts across Hertfordshire and how we can collaborate to support those who need it most."
Hannah Marsh, Head of Health and Wellbeing at Stevenage Football Club Foundation
In addition to their local efforts, the Trust is also gearing up for the London Landmarks Half Marathon, with a dedicated team of runners raising funds to support their life-changing work. The money raised will help the charity continue delivering vital services to families in the area, ensuring babies and young children grow up in safe, loving homes.
"It was a privilege to meet with the High Sheriff and Stevenage Football Club Foundation, alongside players in the team, to explore how we can collectively drive positive change for families experiencing domestic abuse. At The For Baby's Sake Trust, we recognise the crucial role that community initiatives — including sport — play in breaking cycles of abuse and promoting emotional safety for babies, children, and their parents."
Amanda McIntyre, Head of Impact and Evaluation at The For Baby's Sake Trust
The For Baby’s Sake Trust looks forward to continuing its collaboration with local partners and strengthening its impact across the region.
